21st April 2013: Bottisham Swimming Club hosted the second round of the Junior Fenland League at Parkside Pools, Cambridge.
An impressive City of Cambridge Swimming Team, featuring many swimmers on their first competitive swim for the club, secured a record breaking victory in the second round of the Junior Fenland League on home soil. Cambridge won 38 of the 45 events raced, with 33 personal best times!
The youngest swimmers stole the show, securing a clean sweep of wins in the 9 year old age group. Little Louis Byrne stormed in first in the Butterfly in both his own age group (9yrs) and in the age group above (10/U) securing a 4 second personal best time of 55.42 secs in the process. The same was true of Luke Taylor who took top places in Breaststroke (9 yrs and 10/U), knocking over a second off his previous personal best time. First time competitors Oscar Mulligan (Backstroke) and Isabel MacIntosh (Butterfly) also notched up strong wins, as did team mates Millie Fitzsimons (Backstroke), Eloise Parton (Breaststroke), Guy Semple and Audrey Field (Freestyle).
Amongst our more experienced 11 year olds, four swimmers emulated their younger counterparts and secured wins both in their own age group and in the age group above, each recording improved times on the way. These were Agata Wrobel (11/U and 12/U Butterfly), Jordan Bradford (11/U and 12/U Backstroke), Jacek Schmidt (11/U Breaststroke and 12/U Individual Medley) and in her first outing for Cambridge, Grace Middleton (11/U and 12/U Breaststroke).
Newcomers to the team, Maxim de Wildt (Breaststroke and Freestyle) and Olivia Blydenstein (Freestyle and Backstroke) proved their value in the 12/U age group, recording 2 individual wins a piece and each taking a leg in the winning Freestyle Relay Team. Two individual wins were also secured by Oliver Heydinger (13/U Breaststroke and Individual Medley), Natasha Howard (13/U Back and Butterfly) and Charlotte Laing (10/U Breaststroke and Freestyle), who also played her part in the triumphant relay team.
Other victors on the night were Oliver Emsley (13/U Backstroke), Ilyas Abouelouafi (10/U Backstroke), Alice Heydinger (11/U Freestyle and Relay), Cameron Wolstencroft (10/U Freestyle and Relay), Sarah Brunsdon (11/U Backstroke), Hannah Lin (13/U Freestyle and Relay), Josh Borrett (12/U Butterfly and Relay), George Whisken (Relay), Catriona West (13/U Individual Medley) and Charlotte Richards (10/U Fly).
Final points were City of Cambridge 217, City of Ely 137, Bottisham 113, St Neots 95, West Norfolk 83 placing Cambridge third in the league on going into Round 3.
