Super start for city swimmers.
City of Cambridge Swimming Club had a super start to their regional campaign at the 2008 Winter Short Course Championships in Norwich.
The event was held over two days and had a full program of events, including finals, giving some swimmers an exhausting schedule. With hard qualifying times it was a small squad of 15 who made the grade for this premier meet.
A total of 65 swims were completed with a fantastic 37 personal bests achieved. Three junior swimmers came away with bronze medals -Tim Riviere in the 50m backstroke, Andrew Wilkinson in the 800m freestyle and Richard Jefferies with an excellent time of 16.59.42 in the 1500m. In the senior category Tomas Cerny won a bronze in the 100 I.M as well as reaching the final in 3 other events. Most impressive were the 43 qualifying times achieved for the 2009 East Region Championships with swimmers Luke Westwood and Isabella Thompson missing national times by mere hundredths of a second.
Head Coach Dave Horne was justifiably pleased with the effort and enthusiasm shown by all swimmers, and was confident that at a less intensive meet national qualifying times would have been achieved.
