City of Cambridge Swimming Club

How the Club Runs

The Executive Committee

This committee runs the Club in a way that follows the Club Constitution.

The Executive Committee aims to meet on the first Thursday of every month. If there are any views that you would like aired or points you would like to make, please ask a committee member to raise the issue at the monthly Exec meeting. If you prefer please e-mail your issue to swimmers@cocsc.org.uk, and it will be discussed at the next committee meeting, or sooner if urgent action is required.

The committee consists of a volunteer group of parents and supporters, elected each year at the AGM.

The committee's duties are very wide ranging. Finances, membership, pool hire, arranging competitions, discipline, social activities, coaching matters and matters involving the ASA are just a few.

As a new member you will almost certainly be first in contact with our Membership Secretary or Treasurer. However over a period of time you will meet all Committee members. If you have any ideas or proposals for improving the Club in any way, please contact any Committee member .

The Club is run under a Constitution that is determined by an annual AGM. A new Executive Committee is voted in at each AGM.

Costs & Finance

The cost of pool hire, coaching staff, administration, cups and medals, ASA membership and so on are met from the income of the Club. Largely this is derived from an annual fee - the squad fees.

There is a £15 joining fee to become a member. The cost of membership then varies for each squad. Generally speaking the more time spent in the pool, the higher the total cost. Annual fees are paid by monthly standing order, each equal to one twelfth of the annual amount. Payment by standing order is essential in order to reduce the administrative burden on the Club.

The finances of the club are run on a non-profit basis. The club has a high turnover. To keep pace with ever increasing costs it is necessary from time to time increase squad fees to make sure that income matches expenditure. In periods when expenditure exceeds income the Club reserves the right to introduce an annual administration charge to balance the books.

Part Membership

The Club could not run without the help of many parents and helpers. We encourage parents to join the Club by taking out Part Membership. This costs £10 per year. It provides you with ASA Insurance around the pool and free transport on Club coaches to away matches, space permitting. It also means that you are entitled to vote at club AGM's; are able to stand for election to the Executive Committee, and are bound by the Rules of the Club.

We very much wish for Parents to get involved with timekeeping, coaching, helping at galas or on poolside or helping at social events. Training can be provided by the club to allow for ASA qualifications. All poolside helpers must be part or full members of the Club.
