On the right hand side of this there are a series links to the other pages of our web site.
Underneath the news area is a series of buttons known as 'The Swim Ring' this is a series of swimming web sites around Great Britain, you can use this to easily explore the web sites of the other swim clubs in the UK.
Toward the bottom of the screen on the right there is a link which will allow you to install a copy of the Adobe Acrobat PDF reader, simply click the button and follow the instructions. The use of PDF is very important to the web site, it is used to display small (faster download) versions of large documents such as the fixture list and competition results. It also allows us to display and print larger, unwieldy documents such as the squad training schedule. On the left hand side is a button which will allow you to subscribe to a mailing list where members of the list may discuss anything to do with swimming, for example you could use this to arrange lift sharing for training sessions or find which swimmers are going to enter a particular open meet.
This is the most important area of the site for swimming members of the Club and their parents. This should be your first port of call when looking for current information regarding the Club and its activities.

The scrolling area is used to display important Club news such as canceled sessions and results of competitions. The newest items are always displayed at the top of the list, however the scrolling area is not very big so to see all the news that may be relevant it is a good idea to scroll down the list.
Many of the news items will contain links to other web pages that will show more related information or take you to another web page somewhere else in the site or even somewhere else on the Internet, just click on the blue link to see the information or web page.
These news items are placed in here by members of the Club's Executive and the Coaches.
Click the Squad Training Schedule link from the right hand side of the main page
The complete listing of the Cub's training sessions is here, as you will appreciate there is a lot of information, so you may well find yourself using the horizontal and vertical scroll bars on the frame to make the schedule visible. The different all the squads in the club are shown and the individual groups within them in the rows across the table. The columns show squad commitments, age groups, training hours available, followed by the specific session throughout the week in the rows. There are more explanatory notes at the bottom of the page and contact details for the coaches.
The list is easier to read if you have a large computer screen, otherwise it is a quite hard to read and involves lots of scrolling of the display. The list will not print correctly from the web browser. Because of this there is a PDF button at the top of the page which will display a differently formatted list which will print correctly.
The page always displays the date it was published and the date it is effective from so you can have confidence that the information is current.

Click the Reports link from the right hand side of the main page
The reports area allows visitors to the site to read reports of recent galas and competitions. The really good thing here is that anyone can write these, you don't need to be a rocket scientist you just have to be able to type!
The first screen shows a list of links to all the previous reports, just click on the one you want to display. At the very top of the list is a link that allows you to write your own report
Click

To write your report simply type into the fields: Author - type your name in here, Subject - this is the title that will appear in the report on the web, Content - This is the actual report (you type it in plain text, nothing special is required for it to go onto the web. If you want to be clever you can use copy/paste to get text from a word processor in here, this is good because you write your report while you watch the gala!), Link Text - the title for a web link to more information like a web site with the results, Address to link to - the web address of the site e.g. http://www.speedoleague.org.uk and finally press the Submit button. Your article will now wait to be checked, as soon as it is approved it will appear on the web site. If you want it to appear quickly an e-mail to webmaster@cocsc.org.uk will help

Swimming Web Links / Cambridge City Web Links
This page provides details and maps for pools that the club uses frequently,
it also provides various search tools to help you locate pools by region
in the UK and anywhere else in the world. There are 3 columns on the page.
On the left the pools we use frequently, with a button to push for
on the pool and one to push for a map
of the pool. If the name of the pool is in bold black text the details
button displays information from the Swimmers guide on line and the map
button displays the location of the pool based on its postcode using multi-map.
The centre column allows you to browse for pools by region in the swimmers
guide (see note below). The right hand column allows you to search for
pools using the Swimmers Guide, the on-line Yellow pages, Multi-map and
Street map. You can search by postcode or streetname.

The tools on this page, especially the search by region depend on other web pages that are not under our control, sometimes there may be problems with these. Please let John Cochrane know if this occurs.
At present the swim shop pages on the web site simply show pictures of what is available and their prices.
It would be possible to run an on-line ordering service for the swim shop, however to do this the club needs a volunteer with e-mail, if you could do this or are interested please contact Steve Buckley or John Cochrane
